MOZHESH – You Can! | An Original Chassidic Music Video

How often do we convince ourselves that something is simply beyond our reach? That the challenges we face are too great, the burdens too heavy, or the task ahead simply impossible? But what if the real obstacle isn’t our ability, but our willingness to recognise the strength HaShem has given us?

There is a powerful Chassidic story about Reb Leib, the Shpoler Zeide, who was once travelling on foot to visit his Rebbe, the Mezritcher Maggid. Along the way, he encountered a wagon heavily loaded with goods that had become stuck in the mud. When the wagon driver called out for help, Reb Leib apologised, explaining that he simply wasn’t capable of moving such a heavy load.

The wagon driver’s response was simple but profound: “Mozhesh, da nye chotshesh!” โ€” “You can, you just don’t want to!”

To Reb Leib’s surprise, when he joined the wagon driver and put his strength into the task, the wagon rolled free. But those few words continued to echo in his mind throughout the remainder of his journey.
Reb Leib was a remarkable Yid, blessed with extraordinary abilities, a deep love for every fellow Jew, and a burning desire to serve HaShem.

Yet he had always preferred to remain hidden, avoiding the responsibility of becoming a Rebbe and guiding others. Now, he began to realise that the wagon driver’s words were not merely about a wagon stuck in the mud. They were a message from Above, challenging him to recognise his true potential.

When Reb Leib finally arrived in Mezritch, the Maggid revealed that the Baal Shem Tov had once said of him that he possessed the ability to pull a burdened soul out of its spiritual mud. Reb Leib could no longer remain on the sidelines. He had the ability, and with it came the responsibility to use it.

This story carries a timeless lesson for every Yid. HaShem gives each of us unique strengths, abilities, and a mission that only we can fulfil. Yet how often do we hold ourselves back, convinced that we aren’t capable of accomplishing what is expected of us?

Chassidus teaches us that within every Yid lies a Chelek Elokah Mima’al, a G-dly soul with extraordinary potential. Sometimes we become so focused on the weight of the challenges before us that we forget the strength we have been given to overcome them.

And just as Reb Leib discovered, our abilities are not only meant to lift ourselves out of the mud, but to help another Yid who may be struggling to find their way.

We should remind ourselves that when HaShem gives us a mission, He also gives us the strength to fulfil it. The road may be difficult, and the burden may feel heavy, but we must never allow our doubts to prevent us from trying.

Lyrics

Everybodyโ€™s got a wagon,
Everybodyโ€™s got a load,
Everybody finds a little mud
Somewhere along the road.

Reb Leib was walking to Mezritch,
Something heavy on his mind,
When a wagon driver hollered,
โ€œHey, Reb Yid! You got some time?โ€

Wheels buried to the axle,
Horse was pulling all he can.

โ€œCome and help me push!โ€

Reb Leib said,

โ€œI wouldโ€ฆ
But I donโ€™t think I can.โ€

The driver laughedโ€”
โ€œCanโ€™t?โ€

Mozhesh, da nye chotshesh!

CHORUS

Mozhesh! Mozhesh!
Da nye chotshesh!

You can, you canโ€”
You just donโ€™t want to!

Mozhesh! Mozhesh!
Da nye chotshesh!

Before you say you canโ€™t,
Put your shoulder to it!

MOZHESH!

VERSE 2

Hands against the wagon,
Boots buried in the ground,
Horse pulls, Reb Leib pushesโ€”
Still it wonโ€™t come out.

โ€œAgain!โ€
Wheel turns, mud flies,
And the wagon breaks free.
Driver climbs aboard:
โ€œNu, Reb Yidโ€”
You see?โ€

Then he disappears
Down the muddy road.
But four little words
Wonโ€™t let Reb Leib go:

Mozheshโ€ฆ
Da nye chotsheshโ€ฆ

BRIDGE

He reaches Mezritch.

The Maggid says:

โ€œThere are souls carrying burdens,
There are Yidden sinking low.
And you have got the strength
To reach where others wonโ€™t go.

To pull.
To lift.
To bring another Yid
Back onto the road.โ€

Reb Leib looks downโ€”
Mud still on his shoes.

FINAL CHORUS
Mozhesh! Mozhesh!
Da nye chotshesh!

You can, you canโ€”
So what you gonna do?

Mozhesh! Mozhesh!
Da nye chotshesh!

Thereโ€™s a Yid stuck in the mudโ€”
Maybe heโ€™s waiting for you.

One hand, one heart,
One Yid pulls another throughโ€”

MOZHESH!
You can.

OUTRO

Everybodyโ€™s got a wagon.
Everybodyโ€™s got a load.
Mozheshโ€ฆ
DA NYE CHOTSHESH!
