He grew up on the Lower East Side in a family deeply connected to some of the leading Torah personalities of the previous generation.

His father, **Rav Nissan Alpert zt”l**, was a close talmid of **Rav Moshe Feinstein zt”l**, and his maternal grandfather was **Rav Chaim Pinchas Scheinberg zt”l**.
