“A Yid Darf Freylekh Zayn” (א איד דארף פריילעך זיין) is a traditional Yiddish Hasidic song of joy preserved in the Shtefanesht musical tradition of Eastern Europe.
The melody is also known as Nigun Simcha and Nigun Pressman. According to the Shtefanesht collection, it was remembered from the final Shavuot gathering of the Shtefanesht Rebbe in 1933. Its Yiddish refrain means “A Jew should be joyful.”
